In this story:

The Chicago Cubs have played their way back into the National League playoff race, and now they know what the postseason schedule will look like, thanks to Major League Baseball’s released of the 2023 postseason schedule on Tuesday.

Chicago last reached the postseason in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season. The last time the Cubs made the postseason in a full 162-game season was in 2018, which ended a four-year streak of postseason appearances, which included the 2016 World Series title.

The Cubs are in striking distance of one of the three Wild Card berths and still have a shot at winning the NL Central.

The NL Wild Card Series are set to start on Oct. 3, just two days after the end of the regular season.

The Cubs would begin that best-of-three series then, assuming they take one of the three Wild Card spots or win the NL Central, but don’t have one of the two best records among the three division winners.

The Cubs would either host the series or travel to the series, depending on seeding.

The only way the Cubs could skip the Wild Card Series is if they win the Central and finish with one of the top two records among the division winners.

The Wild Card playoffs are set for Oct. 3-5. The NL Division Series, a best-of-five series, will start on Oct. 7 and end no later than Oct. 14.

The NLCS, a best-of-7 series, will start on Oct. 16 and end no later than Oct. 24.

Should the Cubs get to the World Series, a best-of-seven series, it would start on Oct. 27 and end no later than Nov. 4.
