The Chicago Cubs are reportedly calling up pitching prospect Caleb Kilian to make a spot start against the Miami Marlins this weekend according to The Des Moines Register.

With Jameson Taillon on the injured list, the Cubs are in need of another starter for the upcoming series. Javier Assad was optioned recently and obvious choice Adrian Sampson is on the injured list.

Kilian will likely get the start on Saturday, pitching in Taillon's position. The prospect gave up eight runs in his season opener, but has since allowed just one run in his last two starts combined.

Kilian made his Major League debut last season with Chicago where he pitched 11.1 innings over three appearances, giving up 13 earned runs. He was clearly not ready for the promotion and his season from there fell apart.

He will get another shot at redemption now with Taillon out. He should be able to provide the Cubs with some distance if he can keep things in check. Kilian has historically struggled with his command and controlling walks.

While he may not be Chicago's first choice in this scenario, he appears to be the only viable option on the 40-man roster at this point.
