The Chicago Cubs remained banged up, but the team released some positive injury news ahead of their matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday.
According to multiple reports, Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger is continuing baseball activities. Bellinger suffered a knee injury on May 15 against the Houston Astros after slamming into the outfield wall.
Relief pitcher Cody Heuer is pitching for Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday as he gets closer to an MLB return. Heuer will help reinforce the bullpen, but he is in no expected to be magic key to turning around the unit's performance.
Still, having a healthy arm in the mix will go a long way in helping the bullpen's performance.
Finally, reliever Brad Boxberger is playing catch on Wednesday. Boxberger had an injury scare but his right forearm came back negative for structural damage. The new Cub may need some time before returning to the Big League club.
It's all good news for Chicago who is taking on the Rays in the final game of a three-game set against the Rays on Wednesday.
Justin Steele got the nod on Wednesday for the start and is facing Zach Eflin of Tampa Bay as the Cubs look to sweep the Rays.
