The Chicago Cubs could soon see starter Kyle Hendricks return to the rotation as he makes his next steps in his recovery.

According to The Athletic, the Cubs are planning on sending Hendricks out on a rehab assignment, usually seen as the last step prior to returning to the Major League squad.

Tuesday will be a bullpen for Hendricks as well, seemingly one of his last prior to pitching in an actual minor league game.

Hendricks has not pitched in a Major League baseball game since July 5 of last season due to a shoulder strain

The veteran pitcher threw a simulated game on Saturday in Arizona at the Cubs facility.

It is not yet clear what level he will make his first rehab appearance. However, he will likely need multiple starts to build up to a starter's workload. He could rejoin the rotation sometime in mid to late May.
