Cubs' Division Rival Milwaukee Brewers Reportedly Looking to Trade More Pieces

In this story:
The Chicago Cubs know all too well what Craig Counsell can do for a team.
After watching him win the NL Central division three times and make the playoffs five times with the Milwaukee Brewers, they will now have him in their dugout.
The Cubs are expected to be contending for the division this season. That was the goal stated by ownership and the front office. It was one of the main reasons why they decided to give Counsell the highest salary for a manager in MLB history.
They haven't been able to land the star players that they sought when the offseason first began, but they've made enough additions to put together a roster that can compete.
Chicago should also get a huge boost after the Brewers are seemingly entering a rebuild mode and are willing to sell off some of their best players before the new season begins.
"One source said Milwaukee could be open to a trade of closer Devin Williams, who has two years of club control remaining prior to free agency. Another potential trade chip is shortstop Willy Adames, who is set to become a free agent at the end of this season," reports Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
These would be division altering moves.
Removing the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Milwaukee has finished first or second in the NL Central since 2017.
They've done a great job at developing talent within their pipeline and have gotten their young players to become impact players at the Major League level.
But even with that strong developmental system, not having one of the best relievers in the league and moving one of their hitters would be difficult to overcome.
This would create a much clearer path for the Cubs to win the division and get back into the playoffs for the first time since 2020 during this upcoming season.
