In this story:

The Chicago Cubs have been able to develop their pitching staff well at both the Major League and Minor League levels.

Much of that credit was given to assistant general manager Craig Breslow who oversaw the pitching department.

With him departing to take over the Boston Red Sox's baseball department, there will now be a lot of focus on how the Cubs can continue to develop their prospects without Breslow for the coming years.

No pitcher in the organization made a greater leap than Justin Steele, who turned himself into a legitimate Cy Young contender in 2023.

Rookies Javier Assad and Jordan Wicks showed their future stuff when called upon this year.

11 of the Cubs' Top-30 prospects are pitchers.

Right handers Cade Horton and Ben Brown are both top-5 prospects in the farm system and are expected to debut next season.

All five of these players have rapidly improved under the watch of Breslow during his tenure.

Chicago needs that to continue.

These talented prospects have to reach their peak potential, or close to it, as the front office builds this roster for years to come.

There's a good chance that Breslow's exit could hurt the Cubs if they don't have a plan in place to maintain what he built and find someone else to replace him.

As of now, there has been no mention from Chicago's organization about who they are looking to as a replacement.

There will be a lot of focus on these young pitchers as they hit the MLB to see how they continue to develop and adjust to the highest level of baseball.
