Chicago Cubs starter Marcus Stroman has been tabbed as the 2023 MLB Opening Day starter for the club. Stroman announced the decision on his social media.

Stroman is coming off of a strong performance with Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic and was the favorite to start Opening Day barring an atrocious spring. 

The righty posted a 3.50 ERA in 138.2 innings pitched in 2022, his first with the Cubs. He is hoping to reach new heights in his second season with Chicago as he battled injury last year.

The only real competition Stroman faced for the Opening Day start was new singing Jameson Taillon. However, the Cubs gave way to their veteran who should be the ace of their rotation. 

After a strong spring, Stroman is set to outperform his 2022 contributions, a key factor if the Cubs hope to contend this season and going forward.
