Corbin Carroll's breakout  rookie season has continued to gain national attention, and now it's showing up in the All Star voting results. With the the voting deadline just two days away, Carroll has leapt past teammate  Lourdes Gurriel Jr. into third place, and the two are now locked in a dead heat.  In the previous publication of results Gurriel was in third place and Carroll was in fifth.

All Star Ballot Link

Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Braves has over 2.2 million votes and is on top of the table followed by Mookie Betts of the Dodgers with just over 1.4 million votes.  Then you have Carroll with 673,880 and Gurriel Jr right behind with 672, 779.  The only other outfielder seemingly in range of the third spot is Juan Soto of  Padres with 600,962.

The 22 year old Seattle native recently picked up his first NL Player of the week award and has been getting a lot of national attention from the media lately. Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated just published an article showing where Carroll's break out first 100 career games ranks all time.  Carroll has expressed the desire to get to go back home in front of family and friends to play in the  All Star Game and it looks like he just might get the chance.

Carroll currently leads the National League in Baseball Reference WAR with 3.7, and Fangraphs WAR  at 3.5. He also leads the NL in Slugging Percentage (.596 )and OPS (.982).  He's in the top 10 in numerous other categories as well such as batting average (.304), OBP (.386) homers (16), runs scored (55) , and stolen bases (19).

Gurriel Jr. came over to the Diamondbacks along with Gabriel Moreno as part of the trade with the Toronto Blue Jays for Daulton Varsho. He has provided a potent right handed bat and played above average defense.  His slash line is .280/.329/.504 with 11 homers and 42 RBI are exactly what the D-backs were looking for when seeking balance to their left handed lineup.

Gurriel Jr is a clubhouse and fan favorite, and can always be counted on for a smile and uplifting positive moment. Born in Cuba, he recently became a US Citizen.  Well liked wherever he's gone, it's possible he is getting a sizable run over vote from Toronto Blue Jay's fans still fond of their former player.

Both of these players have been key cogs in propelling the Diamondbacks to first place in the NL West with a 44-29 record. Whichever one gets to represent the D-backs in the game will do so proudly and with honor, that much is assured.
