Tommy Henry Hit Around In Rough Outing

The D-backs young left-hander hit a bump in the road.

The D-backs 5-2 to the Chicago White Sox at Camelback Ranch today. Young starter Brandon Pfaadt put forward a decent outing in two innings of work, going two innings, allowing two hits and a run with a strikeout and no walks.

However, in relief, young left-hander and fifth starter candidate Tommy Henry had  a rough showing. Henry was batted around for six hits, while walking two and allowing three runs in 2 1/3 innings. This is the first poor outing of Henry's spring, and the first runs allowed by the left-hander.

However, the back end of the bullpen had a solid showing, with Brandon Hughes, Humberto Castellanos and Luis Frías going a combined 2 2/3 scoreless innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Ryan Thompson's first game action saw him allow a walk and an unearned run on a Jose Herrera throwing error, but he struck out first baseman Gavin Sheets to end the inning.

Arizona's offense was generally weak, although third baseman Andrés Chaparro, in his first time up today, smashed his second home run in as many at-bats, dating back to the 8th inning of yesterday's matchup.

Tristin English was 1-for-2 with an RBI, second baseman Ketel Marte continued his blazing hot streak with a walk and a base hit, as did Joc Pederson. Infielder Jace Peterson saw his first game action back from his wrist injury, he went 1-for-3 with a base hit and a strikeout.

Although the D-backs did rack up 10 base hits and four walks on the day, they struggled to bring men home, leaving 13 on base and going a combined 2/12 with RISP.

The D-backs will face off against the San Diego Padres tomorrow at Salt River Fields. First pitch is at 1:10 PM. The game will be televised as MLB.TV free game of the day.
