Gurriel, Carroll Rank High in National League All-Star Voting

In this story:
Starting in the month of June, Major League Baseball began the fan voting portion for the 2023 All-Star Game. Two weeks into the voting process, MLB released their first update. The Diamondbacks only have two players ranking in the Top 5 at their respective position, with Lourdes Gurriel and Corbin Carroll tallying the third and fifth highest votes in the outfield.

Gurriel, 29, was picked up by Arizona in a trade with the Blue Jays in December and having a career season. In 55 games, he is batting .301 with 10 home runs, 39 RBI, .895 OPS, and a 143 OPS+. Between Fangraphs and Baseball Reference, Gurriel is averaging 1.75 Wins Above Replacement (WAR). Should he continue to hold onto the third spot, it would be not only his first All-Star game selection but also his first start.
Carroll, 22, is the frontrunner of the National League Rookie of the Year and has become a dark horse candidate for the Most Valuable Player award. He's hitting .308 with a team-leading 13 home runs, 33 RBI, 19 stolen bases, a .968 OPS, and a 163 OPS+. His average WAR total is 3.15. As one of the bright young talents taking MLB by storm this season, there is a strong chance that Carroll will be playing in his first All-Star game in his hometown of Seattle.
Fans can vote up to five times a day for both the American and National League All-Stars between now and June 22nd. After the first phase of voting, there is a second phase where the Top 2 at each position, Top 6 in the outfield, are on the ballot to decide who the starter is. The top vote getter in each league will be named a starter, which is currently Ronald Acuña Jr. in the NL. If they hold their current spots Gurriel and Carroll would advance to the second phase of the balloting, which takes place between June 26th and 29th. The starters will be announced later that day.
