The San Diego Padres believed they were welcoming the perfect team manager to lead the group they were building. Bob Melvin joined the franchise back in 2021 as the position opened after Jayce Tingler got fired following his two seasons with them.

Melvin had 18 years of experience as he was able to manage the Diamondbacks, Mariners, and Athletics. He had developed a reputation for not only connecting with his players but also always willing to step for them, hence why he has garnered so many ejections.

But it's safe to say that this season he is in the midst of with San Diego is like none other than he's ever had to endure. He came into the year excited to implement all of his new offensive weapons and the result has been one of the worst hitting teams in the MLB.

Impatience Continues To Set In

Speaking of ejections, Melvin just hit the history books with his latest one after yet another Padres loss. They currently sit at 20-26 and everything just appears to be going downhill.

Melvin has spoken out multiple times since then about how the team needs to perform up to their payroll. In his media session following Saturday night's loss to Boston, Melvin was asked how this season's squad compares to a previous Athletics one of his that started 0-6.

It is not even close in Melvin's eyes.

“The Oakland teams,” Melvin said Saturday afternoon, “didn’t have these expectations.”

The 61-year-old also spoke on the difficulty of finding a consistent lineup.

“I agonize probably as much as anybody here,” Melvin said. “Look, as a coaching staff we’re trying to mix things up today. We’re doing a little defense first. We have a little situational game going on after that. You do the best you can, but we have guys here that have been very successful and to this point they have not been."

Let's hope our guys can at least steal one win today.
