There are very people within the Padres' organization that are feeling the pressure to see some improvements more than team manager Bob Melvin. Other skippers probably looked at his situation heading into the 2023 season and thought to themselves that he would have one of the easier jobs.

However, it has been nothing but the opposite as it feels like when one thing finally goes right for the Friars, another goes South. The pitching and hitting rarely show up in the same games, injuries hit right when it looks like the squad is healthy, and there is just no consistency. Juan Soto definitely is on thin ice considering that he is playing for a new contract but fans are growing impatient with Melvin's guidance.

The 61-year-old manager has been much more vocal as of late due to the first quarter of the season coming to an end. It's been nice to see Fernando Tatis Jr. return and Soto finding his bat again but San Diego wants to be a contender.

They did not spend hundreds of millions of collards on their roster so they could be counting their little victories. Melvin was so frustrated that he got historically thrown out of Wednesday's match against the Minnesota Twins and went off on the team after the game.

After a second straight loss to the Dodgers on Saturday, Melvin was not off the rails but simply asked for one thing from the clubhouse.

“Every game is urgent to try to get ourselves more than anything right offensively,” manager Bob Melvin said. “I think more than anything, it’s that. So I don’t think we’re focused too much right now on the standings. I think our focus should just be on getting better at-bats.”
