As the San Diego Padres keep chugging along, the thought for next season keeps coming up. There is still time for them to make a last dash for the postseason this year, but it has been a very trying and frustrating season for everyone involved.

When a team enters the year as one of the favorites for the World Series and struggles in the way that they have this season, changes tend to be made. And normally the first move made is at the manager position.

Padres' insider Dennis Lin gave some insight into the possibility of Padres manager Bob Melvin being back next season after this long year.

"If you ask most people around baseball, around the organization, it would be something of a surprise if Bob Melvin is back next season. Whether that's him getting fired or voluntarily leaving on his own because this has obviously been a very trying season."

Per iHeart Radio

If the team were to get rid of Melvin, it would be a tough decision for everyone. Melvin is widely respected around the league, and it could have ramifications on the future manager of the organization.

"If you replace another manager, who's going to want to come to work here? Knowing that it's a pretty hands on front office and the clubhouse is a maybe a little difficult to deal with. ... it hasn't ended well for the last few managers."

Per iHeart Radio

People watch what happens around the league and how members are treated. If Melvin is gone, the Padres may have a hard time filling the role. It hasn't been an easy job, even with their run to the NLCS last season.

It still took a dash at the end of the year to get them playing well enough to make a run in the postseason. It's not like the Friars have been dominant consistently with all the talent on the roster.

These last few weeks of the season will be telling for more than just the outcome of this year. It's almost like a trial run for the organization, with the baseball industry watching their every move.

San Diego has some major decisions to make after the season, but for now, they need to focus on trying to win more games in the year.
