Depending on which fans you ask, some will assure that they never had a doubt that Manny Machado would be spending the rest of his career with the San Diego Padres and others will admit they thought he was heading back to the Dodgers in free agency. It was a pretty wild time just before free agency where the superstar seemingly shut down any contract talks until the offseason.

However, we all know how it ended... Machado received his well-deserved paycheck and the Friars held on to one of their most valued players. His 11-year extension will pay him $350 million and keep him in San Diego until he is 40.

What will Machado's Production Look Like In The Final Years Of His Contract?

Obviously, things could potentially get a bit scary as Machado's contract winds down especially when you take into consideration all of the big deals the Padres have been handing out but there is a firm belief that he will be able to adjust as his body ages.

Machado has been one of the best third baseman for some years now and his slugging is the cherry on top as well. Combining both of these talents has allowed him to take home numerous All-Star game appearances, Silver Sluggers, and MVP love. I believe he will still be able to hold down the infield for quite some time before even considering a position change at some point.

What are Machado's Thoughts On The Matter?

The San Diego Padres currently have the second-oldest player in the MLB with Nelson Cruz. He has been holding down the designated hitter position along with Matt Carpenter who has some years on him as well.

Machado has been able to closely study what they have done to ensure that they can still mentally and physically contribute to the franchise in every way possible. Cruz has had some huge performances for the team in wins as well.

But Machado is aware that he'll have to do the same as his career progresses and highlighted what both of those guys do well.

They just have fun man," said Machado. That’s the biggest thing I see from these guys. Nellie and Carp, they have fun every single day no matter what. They go out there, and they enjoy this game. They love this game, and that’s what keeps them going every single day. So as long as you don’t lose the love for the game, I think you’re going to be all right.” (Via AJ Cassavell)

We are beyond excited to see this next decade of Machado in brown and gold.
