Padres News: Poor Pitching & Bad Decisions Led to SD's Demise on Tuesday

In this story:
Tuesday was not the best night for your San Diego Padres and even though we got a nice comeback at the end, this outing was specifically forgettable for none other then Seth Lugo.
If your starting pitcher only lasts two innings on the mound and gives up five runs in that span, winning the game will be insanely hard. When you factor in that SD themselves did not score until the fifth inning, Lugo's performance was so bad that he jumped from a 3.18 ERA to a 4.10 ERA in the short time that he played.
Seth Lugo allowed five runs over two innings, and his evening is done after 42 pitches. Drew Carlton on to make his Padres debut.

However, we would always come to find out that Lugo hurt his calf during the match and that's also why he was pulled out early.

Team manager Bob Melvin has had a lot of sad postgame interviews as of late. It is very clear that he is frustrated with all of the struggles that this team is enduring despite the experience.
It's not like this is a rebuilding team and they're trying to figure out who can fit where. They had their stars and role players informed of what exactly would be expected of them coming into the season and have yet to see the results that they were promised.
Nonetheless, Melvin touched on what went wrong in their 5-4 loss to the Royals.

“It’s just a little bit the way we’ve been playing – just not in sync all the way around,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said. “And you don’t expect baserunning to cost you. We’ve been pretty good, pretty efficient on some stolen bases and caught stealings. Unfortunately, it ended the way it did today, and that usually doesn’t happen like that. We got a lot of positives today. We scored a couple runs in the middle innings after we were down, bullpen did a great job. Unfortunate that (baserunning) ended up costing us the game.”
