September 23, 1983, marked a milestone for Philadelphia Phillies' Hall-of-Fame pitcher Steve "Lefty" Carlton.

In a 6-2 Phillies win against his former squad the St. Louis Cardinals, Lefty picked up win #300 of his career.

At the time, he was just the 16th pitcher in MLB history to accomplish the feat.

The Phillies presented Carlton with a gold ring with "300" spelled out in diamonds following the game.

In 1983, Carlton led the majors in strikeouts for the third time in his career with 275, and led the National League in innings pitched with 283.2.

In 15 seasons with the Phillies, Carlton was 241-161 in 499 career starts, collected 3,031 strikeouts in 3,697.1 IP, and hurled 185 complete games and 39 shutouts. He's also a four-time Cy Young award winner in 1972, 1977, 1980, and 1982.

On Sept. 23, 2005, Jimmy Rollins and the Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds 11-10. Rollins collected two hits in the game, extending his hitting streak to a post-1900 franchise-record 28 games.

A few days later, on Sept. 27, Rollins belted a first-pitch lead-off homer to right field versus the New York Mets to extend the streak to 31 games, which tied Ed Delahanty's team-best hitting streak set in 1899.

Rollins' hitting streak ended at 38 games on April 6, 2006, thus ending his pursuit of surpassing Joe DiMaggio's all-time record of 56.

However, Rollins' feat is still the eighth longest hitting streak in MLB history, and has not been touched since 2005-06.
