Phillies are a Winning Team in 2021 After Victory Over Marlins

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 5-0 on Friday night. The offense showed, Ranger Suárez was incredible, and everything clicked for the Phillies. Except, it was too little, too late.

It was the first game of the final series of the 2021 season. After an abysmal showing against the Atlanta Braves earlier in the week, Philadelphia was eliminated from postseason contention. But, that doesn't mean there isn't something to play for.

Bryce Harper is still solidifying his case for the National League MVP, the Phillies wanted to win at least 82 games, so there's a sliver of pride to be had.

Harper, despite a down series against the Braves, continued on his tear. The slugger went 3-5 with a homerun and a double, increasing his seasonal OPS to a major league-leading 1.043. Even without the Phils being a playoff team, Harper should still easily earn NL MVP honors.

Outside of Harper, Suárez was once again lights out for Philadelphia. Since moving to the rotation from the closer's role, Suárez has been outstanding. He went another seven innings last night and didn't give up a run. He has a 1.51 ERA as a starter. If the Phillies hope to chase Red October next season, Suárez should be playing a massive role in that.

For the first time since 2011, the Phillies will have a winning record to end the season. It is a step in the right direction, but it clearly isn't enough to get over the hump. Perhaps 2022 will be their season? Until then, enjoy the small things, like Suárez, and Harper potentially winning the MVP award.

Let's hope for better times ahead.
