The Philadelphia Phillies called starting pitcher Hans Crouse up to the big league club on Sunday. In a corresponding move, the team designated for assignment outfielder Matt Joyce.

Crouse is slated to take the mound to start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday in the fourth and final game of the series. It will be Crouse's debut and he will be hoping to help the Phillies sweep the Pirates and keep pace in the National League East division race.

The right-hander was a second round pick in the 2017 MLB draft. For a while, Crouse was seen as a Top-100 prospect in the game before elbow injuries delayed his development.

Crouse used to feature an upper-90s fastball, but since returning from injury, his velocity on the pitch has dipped, but he has shown more of propensity to control the pitch better. As mentioned yesterday on Inside the Phillies, Crouse has transformed himself into a "pitcher" after having just been labeled a "thrower" earlier in his development.

Crouse was acquired from the Texas Rangers at the trade deadline as he was part of the package that included pitchers Kyle Gibson and Ian Kennedy. Spencer Howard headlined the return for the Rangers in the trade.

Philadelphia currently sits 1.5 games back from the Atlanta Braves in the NL East race. Crouse will try to make an early impression on the team as he steps into his first MLB action with the Phillies in the middle of a pennant race.
