MVP! Adolis Garcia Extra-Inning Walk-Off Wins World Series Game 1 for Texas Rangers

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García set the postseason RBI record with a walk-off home run to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5 in Game 1 of the Word Series.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García set the MLB postseason record in the grandest of fashion Monday night, homering in the 11th inning to complete a comeback 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 1 of the World Series.

The blast to right field off Diamondbacks reliever Miguel Castro not only walked off the victory, but it pushed the playoff RBI total for the American League Championship Series MVP to 22.

That's the most all-time in a single postseason, and gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven that returns to Globe Life Field on Saturday night.

"Special players step out in moments like this, and [García has] done it all season for us," said Corey Seager, whose two-ran blast in the ninth tied it 5-5. "It's been extremely fun to watch and extremely fun to be a part of."

García singled off Arizona starter Zac Gallen to drive home Evan Carter from second base to give Texas a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Carter had earlier doubled home Corey Seager to start the scoring for the Rangers, who are seeking their first World Series title.

That gave García 21 RBI in just 13 games, tying the previous record with Davis Freese of St. Louis Cardinals during the 2011 postseason. Freese did that in 18 games, which included a seven-game World Series win over the Rangers.

The also broke a tie for second place held with teammate Corey Seager, who drove in 20 during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ run to the 2020 World Series.

Going into the World Series, García was slashing .327/352./.705/1.102 with a team-high seven home runs. He had already set the record for most RBI in an MLB postseason before the World Series.

García has also hit home runs in each of his last five games, which is the second-longest such streak in postseason history. He was the ALCS MVP against the Houston Astros.
