Texas Rangers Honored as MLB's Best for 2023

The World Series champion Texas Rangers are MLB's Organization of the Year for 2023.

The Texas Rangers were selected as the 2023 Organization of the Year, Baseball America announced Thursday.

A combination of the Rangers' first World Series title, organization's farm system ranking and general manager Chris Young's recent MLB moves factored into the selection.

"When we select our Organization of the Year, MLB success does play a significant role,” said J.J. Cooper, Baseball America's Editor-In-Chief. “But we're not just picking the Rangers because they won the World Series. This is an award that looks at the totality of an organization's baseball operations. The Rangers have been adept at signing free agents who have made an impact, but they've also succeeded in adding talent in trades, and have had success in landing draftees like Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford. The Rangers have had success in winning at the major league level, but also in scouting and player development.”

The Texas Rangers were named the Organization of the Year by "Baseball America."

This is the second time the Rangers have won the magazine's top award. The other time was in 1989.

The Rangers won the World Series on Nov. 1, securing the first title in the franchise’s 63-year history.

Since debuting in 1961 as the Washington Senators, the Rangers were the oldest active MLB/NBA/NFL/NHL franchise that had never won a championship. Texas became the first team in MLB history to finish at least 25 games under .500 one year (68-94 in 2022) and win the World Series in the following year. The club went 11-0 in road games in the 2023 postseason, the most away wins ever by a team in a single postseason.

Young was at the helm for the club’s title in his first full season as the head of baseball operations. Manager Bruce Bochy, hired by Young last offseason, became the sixth manager in MLB history to lead teams to at least four World Series titles in a career (San Francisco: 2010, 2012, 2014; Texas: 2023).

The Rangers’ farm system ranked 10th overall in Baseball America’s midseason organizational talent rankings, landing four prospects on the publication’s top 100 list: outfielder Wyatt Langford (8), outfielder Evan Carter (10), shortstop Sebastian Walcott (82) and pitcher Owen White (89).

Texas was rated as the seventh-best organization in Baseball America’s 2023 MLB farm system Statcast pitching rankings.

The Rangers’ 2023 World Series roster received significant contributions from rookies and former Texas draft selections Josh Jung and Carter.

The Texas farm system had an organizational record of 357-341 (.511) in 2023, sixth-best in the AL and 12th-best in MLB. It was the fourth consecutive season for club affiliates to produce a combined winning record.

Three of the Rangers’ four full-season affiliates advanced to the postseason: Round Rock (AAA), Hickory (A+) and Down East (A-).
