Texas Rangers Homer Hero Adolis Garcia Named ALCS MVP After Record Performance

Adolis García put together the best offensive performance in Texas Rangers postseason history to help beat the Houston Astros and reach the World Series.

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García topped off an incredible series by being selected as the American League Championship Series Most Valuable Player.

For the series, García was 10-for-28 with five home runs, 15 RBI and seven runs scored. That included a home run in each of the final four games of the series and two in Game 7.

“He’s a bad man, isn’t he?” Corey Seager said. “To be able to come in in this atmosphere, get booed every at-bat and do what he did was pretty special. It was really fun to watch.”

García had his best game at the plate in Game 7, as he went 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs, along with two home runs.

Rangers slugger Adolis Garcia earned the ALCS MVP after totaling five home runs and 15 RBI in beating the Astros in seven games to advance to the World Series.

With his 15 RBI in the ALCS, he set the MLB record for most RBI in a single series, passing former Rangers slugger Nelson Cruz, who set the record in 2011 with 13.

“I just tried to make an adjustment today and tried not to do too much,” García said.

He did plenty.

García’s 20 RBI in the postseason is also the most RBI any player has had prior to the World Series and the most in a single Rangers postseason.

With his RBI single in the first inning, he drove in a run for his sixth straight postseason game, extending his team-record streak.

With his solo home run in the third inning, he hit his sixth postseason home run and became the first Rangers hitter to hit a home run in four straight postseason games, breaking a tie with Juan Gonzalez and Cruz.

García’s grand slam in Game 6 was third in Rangers postseason history, joining Nelson Cruz in Game 2 of the 2011 ALCS against Detroit and Mitch Garver, who hit one in Game 2 of the ALDS against Baltimore earlier this postseason.

With the Game 6 home run,García first player in history to hit a grand slam against the same team in both the regular season and the postseason, and the first player to hit a home run after striking out four times in a postseason game.

What he did in Houston over the final two games followed a devastating Game 5 that included García hitting a go-ahead homer and getting hit by a pinch that led to the benches emptying. García didn't regret his actions in Game 5.

García pushed his total for the postseason to 20 in his first 12 postseason games. Going into Game 7, he was tied for the second-most RBI of any player in his first 11 postseason games with 15, behind only Nomar Garciaparra, who had 20.

García’s RBI total is now tied for second in a single postseason all-time with his teammate, Seager, who did it in 2020. St. Louis’ David Freese has the most all-time with 21.
