Texas Rangers' Love of Creed Inspires NFL's Minnesota Vikings

The Texas Rangers are apparently inspiring other pro sports teams to turn up the volume on Creed's extensive catalog.

The Texas Rangers have apparently started a Creed-issance, thanks to their embrace of the post-grunge rock band during the second half of the MLB season.

And it’s spreading. It’s not just the Rangers that are apparently drawing inspiration from the Scott Stapp-fronted group.

The Minnesota Vikings, after starting the season 0-3, beat the Chicago Bears on Sunday for their second win in the last three games.

Turns out before the game. Vikings center Garrett Bradbury had a request — play some Creed.

So, the Vikings did. They played “Higher,” the same song that Rangers fans sung along to during Game 3 of the American League Division Series last week.

Turns out Bradbury took his cues from the Rangers on this one, and quarterback Kirk Cousins said after the game that he felt like it “may have made the difference.”

Wait, seriously?

“The Rangers have been playing Creed and they're rolling in the playoffs and we've been listening to it here and there,” Cousins said. “But music's banging on the boom box most pregames in the locker room and we thought we'd mix it up the genre a little bit, get some Creed in there.”

The Vikings aren’t ready to make it tradition just yet, Cousins said. They only played “Higher” before the game and no other Creed songs. He wouldn’t commit to going back to Creed when the Vikings play the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.

During the Rangers’ road trip in Baltimore during the ALDS, pitcher Andrew Heaney revealed that Creed’s music had been a bonding exercise for the team.

When the Rangers returned home for their first playoff game at Globe Life Field last week, the fans staged a singalong to “Higher” in the second inning.

The Rangers, now up 2-0 in the ALCS over the Houston Astros, will play Game 3 at Globe Life Field on Wednesday evening. No word yet of Creed will be part of the in-game entertainment.

It most certainly will pregame.
