Texas Rangers pitching prospect Mitch Bratt won his first game of the 2023 season with the High Class-A Hickory Crawdads on Tuesday night.

Bratt had one of his best performances, as he pitched five innings of four-hit baseball and didn’t give up a run. He walked one and struck out five as the Crawdads went on to beat Greenville 5-1.

The victory wrapped up a solid month for Bratt, who went 1-2 in May with a 3.32 ERA. He gave up 26 hits in 21 2/3 innings, allowing eight earned runs. He struck out 24 and walked four.

After eight starts Bratt is 1-2 with a 2.97 ERA in 33 1/3 innings. He’s given up 11 runs (all earned). He’s struck out 39 and walked seven.

Bratt is the Rangers’ No. 16 overall prospect per MLB.com.

At just 19 years old, Bratt pitched for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic in March. He started a game against Team USA that Canada lost 11-5. Bratt was unable to get out of the first inning against a lineup of former MVPs and All-Stars.

Bratt gave up six runs, three hits and three walks in getting just one out.

He was selected in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He threw just six innings in rookie ball in 2021 but struck out 13 while giving up just one run.

Bratt pitched all of 2022 with the Low Class-A Down East Wood Ducks. He went 5-5 with a 2.45 ERA in 19 games (18 starts) and 80 2/3 innings pitched. He gave up 66 hits, 28 runs (22 earned), four home runs and 28 walks. He struck out 99, allowed a .218 opponent batting average and a 1.17 WHIP.
