Texas Rangers Slugger Adolis Garcia Awarded After Huge Week

Adolis Garcia not only fueled the Texas Rangers' 5-1 week, his batting helmet is headed for the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Record-setting Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García is the much-deserved American League Player of the Week.

García won the award after an incredible week, punctuated by his historic effort Saturday against the Oakland Athletics. García's batting helmet from that game is on its way to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.

García went 5-for-5 with three home runs, two doubles, eight RBI, five runs, 16 total bases and five extra-base hits. He was also hit by a pitch. García became the second player in MLB history to have five extra-base hits and eight RBI in one game.

He joined a former Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton, who did it in a four-home run game May 8, 2012 against the Baltimore Orioles

García also became the third player in baseball's modern era (since 1901) with at least three home runs, eight RBI, five runs and 16 total bases in one game, joining Washington Nationals’ Anthony Rendon (April 30, 2017) and Brooklyn Dodgers’ Gil Hodges (Aug 31, 1950).

García five extra-base hits matched the MLB record, and he matched Texas records with five runs scored and six times on base.

Last week in five games García batted .400/.458/.1.100/1.558 with four home runs, two doubles, 14 RBI and eight runs. His RBI total led all MLB players for the week. He led the AL for the week in home runs, extra-base hits and total bases. Only Rangers teammate Marcus Semien (nine) scored more runs last week than García.

This is García's second weekly award. He also won it in April two years ago (April 19-25, 2021). Back in 2021, he became the second Rangers rookie to win the award, joining outfielder Odibie McDowell (July 22-28, 1985).

García is the only Rangers player to win the award twice since the start of the 2019 season. The last Rangers player to win the award was first baseman Nathaniel Lowe (Aug. 22-28, 2022).

Going into the Cincinnati series, García was batting .250 with an .853 OPS figure, along with seven home runs, 28 RBI and 18 runs. He is either second or tied for second in the AL in home runs and runs.
