The Texas Rangers saw their season-high five-game win streak come to an end Wednesday night with a 1-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at Globe Life Field.

The American League West-leading Rangers (40-21) also snapped their season-high eight-game home winning streak, which was the longest in Globe Life Field since it opened in 2020. Texas was shut out for the fifth time this season, with three coming against National League opponents.

The Rangers fell short of sweeping their six-game homestand, but has still won a season-high six consecutive series. It’s the longest series winning streak for Texas since winning a club-record 10-straight sets in 2016.

Texas has still established its best 61-game start in team history ahead of the 1996 club’s 38-23 mark to open the season. The club finished 90-72 and won the AL West title.

Rangers starter Jon Gray (6-2) made his 12th start and shouldered his second loss despite tossing his second career complete game. He allowed one earned run on four hits, while striking out season-best 12. Gray’s career-high five game winning streak came to an end.

Marcus Semien had his career best and MLB-high 25-game hit streak come to an end after going 0-for-4. His streak was tied for the second-longest in franchise history.

The Rangers are off Thursday before opening a three-game series at the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. Texas and Tampa Bay (45-19) have the top two records in baseball.
