Watch: Texas Rangers Prospect Justin Foscue Homers for Round Rock

Justin Foscue is a Top-10 prospect in the Texas Rangers organization whose second home run of the season was a grand slam.

Justin Foscue continues to impress as he continues his first season with the Round Rock Express, the Texas Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate.

The No. 6 prospect in the Rangers organization has put together an impressive group of credentials that should help get him to the Major Leagues someday. While on the west coast with the Express, he showed off the bat that impressed Rangers manager Bruce Bochy in the spring.

The Express clobbered the Sacramento River Cats 17-9 on Tuesday. In that game Foscue delivered a grand slam, his first of the season.

Texas invited Foscue to Major League Spring Training before sending him to minor league camp in early March so he could get more playing time. But, in his first two MLB Spring Training games, he was the only Rangers player to homer in each game.

He’s off to a solid start in his first season in Triple-A, batting better than .250 with two home runs and five RBI. But the Rangers have him working at multiple positions right now, trying to create some versatility for a player that is a natural middle infielder.

If the Rangers are going to get his bat to Arlington one day, he’ll have to play multiple positions.

The bat may be worth it, though.

He had a great season at Double-A Frisco last year. He played in 101 games and batted .288/.367/.483/.961 with 60 runs, 31 doubles, one triple, 15 home runs and 81 RBI. He walked 45 times, struck out 66 times, stole three bases and was caught stealing twice.

He played most of his games at second base (76 games), but he did play some third base (12) and was only charged with nine total errors.

The Rangers took him in the first round of the 2020 MLB draft at No. 14 overall, making him the third-highest Mississippi State player taken in the MLB draft after Will Clark (No. 2) and Hunter Renfroe (No. 13). The Rangers paid Foscue a $3.25 million signing bonus.
