Texas Rangers Make First-Time Move in Power Rankings

In this story:
For the first time this season, the Texas Rangers took a tumble.
If a drop of one spot can be considered as such.
The Rangers checked in at No. 3 in the latest MLB Power Rankings from ESPN’s panel of baseball experts. After a steady climb all season that peaked at No. 2 in recent weeks, Texas took its first step back to sit behind the top-rated Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves.
Per ESPN:
The Rangers’ hold on the top spot in the AL West is as strong as ever as they rebounded from a series loss to the Angels to take two of three from the Blue Jays. Their biggest controversy last week revolved around an overturned out call at home plate, where Jonah Heim was charged with a blocking violation. The call led to a roller coaster 7-6 loss to the White Sox. But it wasn’t a devastating defeat, as Texas is showing no signs of slowing down. Neither is Corey Seager – who had a big week at the plate, compiling an OPS over 1.100 including a .423 batting average.
The loss and frustrating replay overturn at Chicago – manager Bruce Bochy called it “one of the worst calls” he’s ever seen – didn’t derail the Rangers, who came back Wednesday to win 6-3 and claim the series. Texas (46-28) is 4-1 since a 2-7 slump and has won its last two series.
Heim mocked the replay call during his home run trot Wednesday. The catcher is in the running to start for the AL in the next round of All-Star Game fan voting. Marcus Semien, Seager, Josh Jung and Adolis García are also still on the ballot.
As for the power rankings for rest of the AL West: Houston Astros (7), Los Angeles Angels (10), Seattle Mariners (19) and Oakland Athletics (30).
The Rangers open a three-game series Friday at the New York Yankees. First pitch from Yankee Stadium is set for 6:05 p.m. CT.
