Texas Rangers Linked to Mets Outfielder As Potential Trade Target

In this story:
Offense might seem like a superfluous need for the Texas Rangers as the trade deadline approaches, but as Rangers general manager Chris Young likes to say, “We’ll explore every avenue to make our team better.”
That could mean an outfield bat at the trade deadline, per MLB.com.
The site put together a list of 10 players that are seeing their stock rise in June and could be moved at the Aug. 1 trade deadline.
One of them is New York Mets outfielder Tommy Pham, who is enjoying a great month but could be on the market soon if they aren’t able to turn things around.
That could be why the Rangers were connected to him by MLB.com:
Since May 28, Pham has an eye-popping 1.141 OPS with a .352 average, four home runs and 18 RBIs in 16 games, but the Mets are going to have to rely on their stars if they hope to turn things around. If the season continues to get away from them, Pham is the ideal trade piece for a club that doesn’t seem ready to blow anything up.
The Rangers wouldn’t be tied to the 35-year-old outfielder beyond 2023 because he’s on a one-year, $6 million deal. That means he wouldn’t cut off the path of some of its top prospects in the outfield, including Bubba Thompson, Dustin Harris and Evan Carter.
In his first 51 games, Pham slashed .259/.329/.496/.825 with seven home runs and 28 RBI.
With those kind of numbers, he would be a good fit with the Rangers. The cost might not be that high, either.
The Rangers could have competition. The piece also connected the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Guardians to Pham.
