Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager took another step in returning from a hamstring injury by taking part in a light workout Monday in Cincinnati.

The American League West-leading Rangers (14-8) dropped the opener of a three-game series to the Reds, as the bullpen faltered down the stretch in a 7-6 loss.

Seager, out since April 12 after straining his left hamstring running the bases, took some swings and played catch before the Reds game, according to the Dallas Morning News. It was the first such activity since he was hurt.

The Rangers haven’t placed an official timetable on his return, though general manager Chris Young said Seager would miss about a month. That puts Seager on track to come back in mid-May.

Texas was 7-4 with Seager and 7-4 since his injury, with Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran getting the starts at short during that span.

Seager, 28, was off to a hot start, hitting .359 with a 1.007 OPS before heading to the injured list.

The Rangers look to tie the series Tuesday night with Martín Pérez (3-1, 3.38) starting and Luke Weaver (0-1, 6.00) pitching for Cincinnati. First pitch is scheduled for 5:40 p.m.
