Just getting back to the World Series is going to be tough enough for the Texas Rangers. So much has to go right, from the health of the club to players producing as expected to just plain ol’ luck.

The defending champions may be as talented as last season – or maybe more so – but there is no guarantee another American League pennant will get hung up inside Globe Life Field.

But let’s just say Texas does go back to the Fall Classic with a chance to repeat. What are the chances of the World Series rematch against the any of the teams that have faced the Rangers with a championship on the line?

Well, MLB.com ranked the likelihood of recent World Series matchups happening again. The Rangers’ three trips since 2010 are listed, with the last one being the most probable.

The possibility of the Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks – Texas won in five games – hooking up again as seen as the fifth-most likely occurrence, according to the league’s website:

Is it possible that both of these teams will be better, start to finish, in 2024 than they were in 2023? Perhaps. That doesn’t necessarily make it likely they’ll return for the first back-to-back World Series matchup since the Dodgers and Yankees in 1977-78, but it’s certainly on the table.

Rangers-San Francisco Giants (2010) and Rangers-St. Louis Cardinals (2011) checked in at No. 12 and 13, respectively. Texas lost both of those series.

The rival Houston Astros held three of the top four spots on the MLB.com list, including the most-likely being the 2017 redo against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Shohei Ohtani.
