Dodgers, Phillies Could Land Red Sox Star In Trade According To Insider

It sounds like Los Angeles or Philadelphia could acquire the Boston star

The Boston Red Sox may end up trading away one of their top pitchers soon.

Boston has been in the news for a plethora of reasons this offseason. The Red Sox have been linked to seemingly every available player and multiple members of the club have also been in trade rumors.

If Boston is going to trade away a major piece, the most likely option is All-Star closer Kenley Jansen. He has been in rumors lately and at this point, it wouldn't be surprising to see a deal get done to trim salary.

Boston is in an interesting spot and if it ends up trading Jansen, two teams that could be options are the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

"Kenley Jansen reportedly is available and I checked around the industry over the last couple of days to try to figure out just how real this story is," Morosi said. "I was told that the Red Sox are in fact listening on Jansen but there has to be a second part of this. If you trade him, it's not just to trade him. It's because either Craig Breslow is trying to bring in multiples of pitching back to replenish the depth of the Red Sox, or by clearing some of Jansen's salary that they could potentially free up enough money to then make a play for one of the available free agents.

"Now the question is which teams could acquire Jansen right now. The quickest answer and one that a lot of people in the industry think is somewhat viable is the Dodgers because of course they know Jansen well and they've been very aggressive this offseason...I would also mention one other team that has been somewhat quiet this offseason, the Phillies."

Los Angeles seems like the most likely option. The Dodgers have been floated as options on multiple occasions and he spent the majority of his career with the club.

It wouldn't be too surprising to see a deal happen. But, if they do deal him away, what will the club's next move be?
