Red-Hot Red Sox Fan Favorite Exploding Right Now Reportedly Paving Way For Trade

Should the Red Sox trade a young slugger ahead of the trade deadline?

The Boston Red Sox likely will be busy around the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline.

Boston is 28-24 through 52 games so far this season and already is surprising people. Many expected the Red Sox would finish in last place in the American League East and potentially even win less than the 78 games won in 2022. Although there is plenty of time left this season and they still could do both of those things, Boston has been impressive.

The Red Sox's offense has been solid all season and the starting rotation has begun to follow suit recently as it has gotten healthier. Chris Sale has started to look like himself, Brayan Bello, James Paxton, and Tanner Houck all have impressed and Garrett Whitlock is back from injury. Things are looking up for Boston but another move or two around the trade deadline certainly would help. One player that is most likely to be on the move is fan-favorite slugger Bobby Dalbec.

The 27-year-old failed to make the Boston big league club out of spring training as Triston Casas earned the club's starting first base job. Dalbec has done his best at the Triple-A level to show that he still has a high upside and has torn the cover off the ball in May. So far in May, Dalbec has slashed .379/.486/.793 to go along with seven home runs, 15 RBIs, three doubles, and three stolen bases in 16 games.

Dalbec has been in trade rumors seemingly since this past offseason and that shows no signs of slowing down. The 27-year-old recently was linked to two National League clubs as potential trade options by longtime Red Sox reporter Peter Gammons and with his red-hot May performance, it wouldn't be too surprising if more teams show interest in the young slugger.

At one point Dalbec was one of the Red Sox's most exciting prospects. He didn't quite reach his expectations at the big-league level with Boston but that doesn't mean he won't be successful. He's impressing right now at the Triple-A level and could use a change of scenery. Hopefully, he can keep up his red-hot play ahead of the trade deadline.
