The Boston Red Sox seemingly have a surplus in the outfield.

Boston traded away fan-favorite outfielder Alex Verdugo this offseason but seemingly filled his role in a separate trade with the St. Louis Cardinals for two-time Gold Glove Award winner Tyler O'Neill.

To go along with O'Neill, Boston currently has Masataka Yoshida, Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, and Rob Refsnyder. At this point, it seemingly would be unlikely for the Red Sox to add to this group, especially because there are plenty of question marks revolving around playing time for the group.

Although this is the case, MLB.com's Will Leitch compiled a list of the top landing spots for two-time All-Star Cody Bellinger and placed the Red Sox at No. 6.

"The Red Sox have long been considered a potential player here, though their trade for the Cardinals’ Tyler O’Neill added to an already crowded outfield picture," Leitch said. "They now have O’Neill, Rob Refsnyder, Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Cedanne Rafaela, and, when he’s not DHing, Masataka Yoshida. Boston needs to add talent, but is Bellinger the right target?"

Landing Bellinger certainly would help the middle of Boston's lineup a move that doesn't seem to make sense at this point. The 2019 National League Most Valuable Player returned to star form with the Chicago Cubs last season but will be extremely expensive in free agency. Plus, he plays the outfield and first base and both spots seemingly are filled in Boston.

If the Red Sox were to make another move -- like trading away one or two outfielders for starting pitching -- a signing could then make sense. At this point, it seems unlikely but things could change.
