One former member of the Boston Red Sox reportedly is on the move.

Longtime Red Sox relief pitcher and 2018 World Series champion Heath Hembree reportedly agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers, according to the Minor League Baseball transaction log.

Hembree began his MLB career with the San Francisco Giants in 2013 and was traded to Boston ahead of the 2014 campaign. The righty spent about six and half seasons with Boston. Hembree was a mainstay in Boston's bullpen from 2014-2020 before being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies prior to the 2020 MLB Trade Deadline.

The 34-year-old has bounced around since leaving the Red Sox and has spent time with the Phillies, New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers, and most recently the Tampa Bay Rays. Hembree signed with the Rays this past offseason and made one appearance with the big league club before being designated for assignment. Hembree pitched 1 1/3 innings for the Rays and didn't allow a hit or run and struck out two batters.

Hembree will begin his Tigers career with the Triple-A Toldeo Mud Hens and look to make his way back to the big leagues. The righty struggled in 2022 and compiled a 7.36 ERA in 26 appearances and put together a 5.59 ERA in 2021 in 60 games. He has struggled in each of the last two years, but if he can regain his form in the minor league he could provide the Tigers a veteran bullpen depth piece. Whether he quickly makes his way to the big league club, or remains in the minors, he is an 11-year veteran who could give the club more depth if injuries or inconsistent play pop up.

There's no way for sure to know what will happen, but maybe the Red Sox will face off against a familiar face this season.
