In this story:

The Boston Red Sox are going to have some decisions to make in the new future.

Spring training is right around the corner and there are plenty of players looking to earn a spot on the Boston roster. When it's all said and done and the 2023 campaign officially kicks off, the 40-man roster likely will look different. Whether the Red Sox make any more signings or non-roster spring training invitees shine, there likely will be changes.

Here are three non-roster spring invitees who could crack the Red Sox's roster:

Oddanier Mosqueda - Relief Pitcher
The 23-year-old signed with the Red Sox ahead of the 2016 campaign and began his professional career with the team's Dominican Summer League club. Mosqueda has risen up Boston's farm system and spent the 2022 season with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs.

The left-handed hurler has a career 3.96 ERA in six minor league seasons. Boston has Joely Rodriguez and Richard Bleier as the only left-handed hurlers in the team's bullpen so it wouldn't be surprising if it added another one. If Mosqueda can shine in spring training, it wouldn't be too surprising if he was able to nab a spot.

Niko Goodrum - Infielder
The former Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers, and Minnesota Twins infielder could find his way to the Red Sox's active roster if the team isn't able to sign another infielder with a solid spring. Boston has been tied to Jose Iglesias and Elvis Andrus and have made it known that it wants to sign another infielder, but if it fails to do so, Goodrum could be a solid depth piece.

The 30-year-old has six years of Major League Baseball experience and although seems to have take a step back in recent years, has shown a little bit of pop with his bat and some speed on the base paths. Boston has Enrique Hernandez, Christian Arroyo, and Adalberto Mondesi on the roster and they likely will have much of the playing time. Goodrum could pencil in as a depth piece if he can shine in spring training.

Jorge Alfaro - Catcher
Alfaro may be the most interesting name on this list. The power-hitting catcher is a seven-year veteran and has shown that he can crush the ball when given an extended opportunity. The 29-year-old likely will compete with Connor Wong for a backup spot on the Red Sox behind Reese McGuire and so a solid performance this spring certainly could lead to a roster spot.

He is a career .256 hitter with some much-needed power, so maybe he could be an intriguing fit with Boston.
