2022 Red Sox Draft Pick Promoted After Dominant Start To Season In Salem

Boston has a fast-rising pitching prospect on their hands

A left-handed flamethrower is impressing the Boston Red Sox organization in his first full season with the team.

“Red Sox have promoted LHP Dalton Rogers to Greenville,” Sox Prospects Ian Cundall tweeted Wednesday afternoon. “The (2022) third-round pick out of Southern Miss excelled in Salem.”

Rogers did in fact excel in Salem as he posted a 2.49 ERA with an impressive 38-to-13 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .139 batting average against and a 1.11 WHIP playing for the Single-A Salem Red Sox this season.

Rogers' fastball is easily the most impressive of his three-pitch arsenal, already topping out at 96 mph and hovering in the 92-94 mph range. When he’s not throwing the heat, the southpaw has a change-up and slider to complete his three-pitch mix.

The left-handed pitcher has a high ceiling as he’s already hitting impressive velocity, but it wouldn’t hurt to lean on his offspeed offering a little more. His fastball powered him onto the pro-ball radar but a more balanced pitch mix will carry him up the higher levels of minor league ball.

Rogers is one of the many exciting pitching prospects rising up the system alongside Shane Drohan, Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and Chih-Jung Liu -- who appears to be breaking out this season.
