The White Sox opened their three-game series against the division-leading Twins with a 3-1 loss last night. They will get a chance to even the series tonight at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Ross Detwiler will start on the mound for the White Sox. In 47 1/3 innings in the majors this season, the 33-year-old left-hander has been worth -0.4 fWAR. Detwiler has a 5.51 ERA, 6.74 FIP, and a 4.72 xFIP. That massive discrepancy between his FIP and xFIP can be explained by his sky-high home run per fly ball rate (30.0%). Though Detwiler's overall stats have not been up to par, he was outstanding in his most recent outing, when he allowed only one run in six innings in a 6-1 victory over the Rangers. In that game, Detwiler struck out eight while not issuing any walks.

Jake Odorizzi, 29, who is having a great year for the Twins, will face Detwiler. Odorizzi has a 3.57 ERA, 3.78 FIP, 4.70 xFIP, and 3.0 fWAR. This is already the most fWAR he has accumulated in a season, passing his mark of 2.9 in 2015 for his career-best. Last week, the White Sox solved Odorizzi, as he allowed four runs (three earned) in five innings in a 4-0 White Sox winner. However, Odorizzi had a great performance against the White Sox back on May 26. In that game, Odorizzi allowed no runs and only one hit while striking out nine in five and one-third innings.
