James McCann and Lucas Giolito came up big again, but Tim Anderson was tonight's MVP by wins probability added
.253
Tim Anderson won tonight's wins probability added MVP award, as he improved his team's odds more than anyone else. Precisely, he added .253 wins for the White Sox. Anderson had two base hits, and though they were both singles, they came at relatively useful times. Anderson's first single drove in the first run of the game, and his second single set James McCann up for yet another grand slam.

James McCann hit his second grand slam in the past three games. Both of those bombs occurred in the eighth inning, oddly enough. Tonight's grand slam put the game out of reach, as the White Sox led by five after he took reliever Ty Buttrey deep.

After his excellent performance tonight, Lucas Giolito has four consecutive quality starts. During that stretch, he has 41 strikeouts in 25 innings of work, good for a K/9 rate of 14.76.

Tim Anderson drove in the first run of the game with a single to right. He would get another single later in the eighth to help set up McCann's grand slam. As a result, he has eight base hits in the past three games. Two of those were doubles, so he has accounted for 10 total bases in those games. No matter how you slice it, he is having a nice stretch at the plate.
33
It has been 33 days since Lucas Giolito had less strikeouts (five) than innings pitched (six) in a start. Though his K/9 rate was a modest 7.50 that game, even that was a quality start, as he allowed three runs in six innings against Kansas City. It's a good sign when even your rough performances are decent. Giolito is proving that he is good enough to be the ace on a contending team.
35
Héctor Santiago's game score in his only appearance with the White Sox was 35. He will get an opportunity to improve on that, as he is the White Sox's probable starter against the Angels tonight.
