Shaq names five NBA players he'd fight
The mere thought stemming from the headline is delicious, isn't it, Shaquille O'Neal with his own invite list to an MMA fight club? One of them includes a beloved Laker, and no, it's not Kobe Bryant. "Ron Artest, you could probably put in there," O'Neal said. ... But before everyone thinks we could see a match more violent than when Artest stormed into the stands during the so-called Malice at the Palace brawl in Auburn Hills, Mich., seven years ago, consider that this seems to indicate O'Neal's respect for Artest since he was the only current player selected. The rest of his list included what he called "old-school players," including Barkley, Charles Oakley, Karl Malone, Xavier McDaniel and Danny Ainge. (Los Angeles Times)Comment
Childress: Moss 'vomited' on Vikes
Brett Favre, he'd do that one again without regrets, but Brad Childress would take a do-over with Randy Moss, his handling of which contributed to his ouster. [Perhaps] the biggest reason [for being fired] was Childress' odd jettisoning of [Moss] -- without telling owner Zygi Wilf first -- just four weeks after the team traded for the receiver. "I should have gone up the chain," Childress now admits. ... Despite Moss' reputation for loafing and being a distraction, Childress believed the receiver would be more mature with 12 seasons under his belt. He believed Moss wouldn't be a distraction in the locker room. Uh, not so much. "We had good guys, by and large," Childress said, "(but Moss) walked in the locker room and vomited on it." Threat of DL hangs over Beltran
Carlos Beltran was supposed to put a charge into San Francisco, but on Thursday the subject of the DL came up. [Beltran] received a cortisone shot in his right wrist Wednesday and is unlikely to play Friday when the Giants open a 10-game road trip in Florida. San Francisco GM Brian Sabean told [Comcast SportsNet Bay Area] via text message that he "still holds hope that (Beltran) will play this weekend." ... "I would certainly hope not," [Bruce Bochy] said Wednesday when asked about Beltran being placed on the 15-day DL. "We don't think so. We're going to do what we can not to let that happen. But again, Friday when we'll check on him and evaluate him, that will help that decision." Since being acquired in a trade with the Mets, Beltran has appeared in 11 games, batting .244 with a double, two triples and two RBIs. (CSNBayArea.com)Comment
