Shanahan 'can guess' leak source
In the midst of this dispiriting run down the stretch of a dispiriting season, media outlets have reported in recent weeks that Mike Shanahan wants out. [Shanahan] has routinely denied to respond to any such reports when asked during his various news conferences over the past two weeks. He walked off the podium Sunday following the game when asked a question about the source of the reports. "I can't do anything about those reports," Shanahan said Monday. "I can guess where they come from. I know there's a lot of people, maybe in my past or maybe [defensive coordinator Jim] Haslett's past or with [offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan] -- hey, not everybody's happy. When you do have three wins, it can be a little bit tough. A lot of things do come out. It's part of this business." (The Washington Times)Comment
Roberts bolting Orioles for Yankees
So long, Brian Roberts. According to FOX Sports, the Yankees are "likely" to sign Roberts, the Orioles' supplemental pick in the 1999 First-Year Player Draft. The Yankees need a replacement for Robinson Cano, who signed a 10-year, $240 million contract with the Mariners. The Orioles still hadn't reached out to Roberts' agent during the Winter Meetings, though executive vice president Dan Duquette indicated that the door remained open for a return. "Let's see how our team shapes up," Duquette said, "and we'll address that at an appropriate time." Manager Buck Showalter expressed hope while meeting with reporters that a deal would be worked out. "In a perfect world," Showalter said. "We'll see if it works for everybody. It's not always a perfect world." (MASN Sports)Comment
Fitzgerald's status still up in the air
When it comes to injuries, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians had a lot to say Monday, with perhaps his biggest star leading the way. [Arians] said wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald still has to go through a battery of tests this week before it can be determined whether he will be available for Sunday's game at Seattle. ... The real concern now is for Fitzgerald, who has 34 catches for 329 yards and five touchdowns in his past five games. He suffered a wicked helmet-to-helmet hit while trying to field an onside kick and was knocked out of the game. "He passed whatever test he needed to pass to come out of the stadium," Arians said, "but that's still a long ways to go from being cleared."
