Bulls' Derrick Rose forced from action with ankle sprain
Derrick Rose was forced from action with a left ankle sprain during Chicago's 114-108 overtime loss to Cleveland at the United Center on Friday.
With a little more than four minutes remaining in the second quarter and Cleveland leading 48-40, Rose rolled his ankle as he landed on Kyrie Irving's foot after making a putback in the paint. Although Rose immediately hopped around in pain, he continued to play through the injury. Eventually, Rose subbed out for good at the 2:38 mark of the third quarter.
The injury spoiled a strong night for Rose, who tallied 20 points (on 8-of-16 shooting), four rebounds and four assists in just 25 minutes.
Rose, 26, worked his way back onto the court this season after missing the entire 2012-13 season and all but 10 games last year due to knee injuries.
"Don't worry, just an ankle sprain," Rose said afterward, according to ESPNChicago.com.
LeBron James scored eight of his game-high 36 points (on 14-of-30 shooting) in overtime to lead the Cavaliers to the road victory. The four-time MVP also tallied eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in 42 minutes to shake off a poor season-opening performance in a loss to the Knicks on Thursday. Irving added 23 points (on 6-of-17 shooting) and three assists in the win.
Cleveland improved to 1-1 with the win. Chicago dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
The Bulls will visit the Timberwolves on Saturday. The Chicago Tribune reports that Rose will make the trip.
