Although the Milwaukee Bucks fell short of their ultimate goal, their players continue to receive awards. This time, All-Star guard Jrue Holiday was recognized with the 2022-2023 Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year award for his exemplary leadership and support of his teammates on the court.

Second straight year

This is the second straight year that the former UCLA star has won the award, which “recognizes the player deemed the best teammate based on selfless play, on- and off-court leadership as a mentor and role model to other NBA players, and commitment and dedication to team.”

This is actually the third time that Holiday has been given the award. He first won it during the 2019-2020 season when he was still a member of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Players’ vote

Unlike the other awards where the media votes on who the winners are going to be, the Teammate of the Year title is based on votes coming from the players, with more than 300 of them giving their opinion. Holiday was ahead of candidates that included Stephen Curry, Derrick Rose, and Damian Lillard.

As much as Holiday does on both ends of the floor for the Bucks, he does just as much off it. Jrue was also named a finalist for the first Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award in 2021 and then also established the Jrue and Lauren Holiday Social Justice Impact Fund to impact socioeconomic inequalities across different communities.
