The Chicago Bulls are in NBA limbo right now. With a roster highlighted by two elite wing scorers and an offensive-minded big man, and no dependable point guard in sight, the Bulls need a strong floor general to lead them into the future. Chicago is in dire need of someone who can facilitate plays for teammates while providing reliable outside shooting and defense.

Making matters worse is the fact that the Bulls do not have a pick in this year's draft, having ceded their high draft pick to the Orlando Magic as the final payment for the trade that brought Nikola Vucevic to the Windy City a few seasons ago.

Where do they go next?

Before tackling this roster issue, it is imperative for the Bulls' brass, led by the executive vice president, Arturas Karnisovas, to decide which path they want to take moving forward with this roster. Do they stick with the current core? Do they start from scratch or retool some parts of the roster? This direction will clarify which players should become free agency or trade targets. It will also dictate how many resources the Bulls have to invest in a point guard, as well as who they must target in upcoming drafts.

Don't wait on Lonzo

The Bulls had a floor general in Lonzo Ball. However, it's been over a year since the talented two-way guard saw action on an NBA floor after suffering a knee injury in January 2022. Three surgeries later, Ball remains inactive, uncertain if he'll ever return to play NBA-level basketball once again. With Ball as the Bulls' lead guard, the team had a great 27-13 record. In his absence, the Bulls are below .500, compiling a 59-65 record and missing the NBA Playoffs this season.

According to Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, the Bulls "desperately need" someone with skills similar to Lonzo's.

"Ball showed the vision and ability to bring this roster together. The Bulls desperately need someone who can do the same, though finding one at the draft might be impossible, since they don't currently possess a pick," Buckley wrote.
