Brad Stevens Discusses Value Jeff Van Gundy's Adding to Celtics

The Boston Celtics brought Jeff Van Gundy on board as a senior consultant in October. Capitalizing on his over 20 years of NBA experience, his role is to consult on all basketball operations matters, not just on coaching.

In a conversation with Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston, Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens praised Van Gundy for the value he's providing the team atop the NBA standings, boasting a 41-12 record, and noted how much respect he has for how the former New York Knicks' bench boss, who helped guide them to the Finals in 1999, carries himself.

“This guy has a wealth of experience, a wealth of knowledge, and yet acts like an entry-level intern… he’s kind to everybody, he’s the most humble guy you’ve ever met.”

Van Gundy previously worked as head coach of the Knicks and the Houston Rockets. Over his 11 seasons as an NBA bench boss, the 62-year-old accumulated a 430-318 record. He was also the head coach for the Eastern Conference in the 2000 NBA All-Star Game.

Working in that capacity, he also helped guide the senior United States men's national basketball team to the gold medal at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup, and to qualify for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
