As the Boston Celtics prepare for the 2023-24 campaign and their renewed pursuit of Banner 18, one player who was a part of their plans for that chase will no longer be able to help the cause, at least not with his on-court performance.

Jay Scrubb, who signed to a two-way deal after an impressive Summer League stint with the Celtics, tore his right ACL during practice at the Auerbach Center on Saturday.

The 23-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky, spent his first two NBA seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers before suiting up in two games for the Orlando Magic in 2022-23.

The John A. Logan College alum has career averages of four points and 1.5 rebounds.

Scrubb seemed primed to build off his performance in Las Vegas and perhaps achieve the most significant growth of his career. It's a brutal setback, but hopefully, it proves to be a minor one.

It will also be interesting to see if and who Boston signs to fill its now vacant two-way roster spot.
