Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Atlanta Hawks have made the decision to waive guard Patty Mills. The 15-year NBA veteran will soon be available on the buyout market.

During his 19-game tenure with the Hawks, Mills averaged 2.7 points and 1.1 rebounds over 10.6 minutes per game. In this limited role, he shot 38.2-percent from three-point range.

The Boston Celtics currently have one available roster spot, which could be used to sign Mills. Boston’s current depth chart in the backcourt includes Jrue Holiday, Payton Pritchard, Derrick White, Jaden Springer, and JD Davison.

Aside from Mills, six-time All-Star Blake Griffin is another candidate to fill the C's final roster spot. Players on the team are lobbying for the five-time All-NBA selection to return to fill that vacancy.

The deadline for a player to get bought out of his contract and remain playoff-eligible is Mar. 1. To state it explicitly, they must get waived by then, but they do not have to latch on with a new team by that date.
