Brad Stevens Invests in Boston's National Women's Soccer League Franchise
Boston Celtics president of basketball operations, Brad Stevens, has invested in Boston's National Women's Soccer League expansion team. The team is slated to join the NWSL in 2026.
"It's cool to be kind of on that ground floor," Stevens told the Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach. "We're very small with regard to our own investor status, but we're certainly thrilled to help in any way, whether it's the board as they're building up a soccer operations group, or looking at recruiting coaches or players down the road," adding, "Whatever the case may be, we want to help in whatever way we can."
Stevens, 46, was the head coach of the Celtics for eight seasons, from the 2013-14 season through the 2020-21 season. During this time, he coached the team to 354 regular-season wins compared to 282 losses.
Arguably, Stevens' most successful season as head coach of the Celtics came during the 2017-18 season. The 2017-18 iteration of the Celtics won 55 games during the regular season and went on to reach the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals, where the team lost to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games.
The 2019-20 season was also a very successful one for Stevens and the Celtics. The Celtics finished with a regular-season record of 48-24 and once again reached the Eastern Conference Finals, this time losing to Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in six games.
Following the end of the 2021 postseason and the Celtics' first-round playoff loss to the Brooklyn Nets, Stevens was promoted from Boston's head coach to president of basketball operations after longtime president of basketball operations Danny Ainge stepped down from the position.
