Pelicans Acquire Former Celtics Sharpshooter

In this story:
The need to trim rosters as the regular season nears brings a reshuffling of the deck. The Boston Celtics have moved on from Wenyen Gabriel and DJ Steward, among others.
And on Sunday, they waived Jay Scrubb, who tore his right ACL at practice the day before the team's preseason opener. They did so to clear their third and final two-way roster spot to sign Nathan Knight, who spent training camp with the New York Knicks.
As teams around the Association put the finishing touches on their rosters before the 2023-24 campaign kicks off, the New Orleans Pelicans acquired Matt Ryan off waivers, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. The six-foot-seven sharpshooter joins his new franchise on a two-way deal.
Ryan latched on with Boston during the 2021-22 season, but he only appeared in one game with the C's. The former Notre Dame Fighting Irishman played in 12 contests with the Los Angeles Lakers a year ago, including one where he buried a contested fadeaway corner three to force overtime in a win over his new team.

His next stop was with the Timberwolves, suiting up in 22 tilts. He averaged 3.4 points and drilled 38.8 percent of his 2.2 three-point attempts while logging 8.2 minutes per matchup for Minnesota.
Ryan inked a two-way deal with the Timberwolves in late September. But while his second stint proved short-lived, he's done well to stick around in the NBA since getting an opportunity with the Celtics two seasons ago.
