One thing fans remember most about Kobe Bryant was that the fact that he and Pau Gasol used to run plays in Spanish to confuse opponents. Nicolas Batum and Serge Ibaka have taken a page out of that book and started to do the same.
The LA Clippers starting lineup has found itself a French Connection with Batum and Ibaka. The duo has played together in a great tandem that's having positive effects on the court and ones fans can't see.
"I think it was in Phoenix, we were in a free-throw situation and we were talking in French," Batum said. "Jae Crowder looked at us like 'it should be illegal to do that."
Batum has been better than the Clippers could have ever hoped for. No one expected him to perform this well on the veteran's minimum. He's hit timely shots, played great defense, and been a fantastic positive influence on the team. The French-speaking advantage is just icing on the cake at this point.
After eleven games, the Clippers are still a very hard team to gauge. Their wins and losses have ranged all over the spectrum. They've blown teams out, been blown out, nearly come back from 20 point deficits, and blown 20 point deficits. One thing is for sure, The French Connection is a duo that works.
