Former NBA All-Star Comments On Trae Young's Recent Injury: "I Hope This is the Last Time We See Him in a Hawks Uniform"

Young is going to be out for at least four weeks with an injury

The Atlanta Hawks have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA this season and currently sit in 10th place in the Eastern Conference Standings. A product of the disappointing season has been an endless rumor cycle of trade rumors. The Hawks were the most talked about team leading up to the Trade Deadline and while Atlanta opted to stand pat, there has already been speculation about what they are going to do this summer.

The subject of these trade rumors this summer has been Trae Young. While none of the rumors are coming from the Hawks and Young has not asked to be traded, that has not stopped the speculation about what might happen this summer.

Tonight, one former NBA All-Star has weighed in.

Former NBA center DeMarcus Cousins appeared with NBA commentator Rachel Nichols and had bold words to say about what Trae Young should want this summer and if we will ever see Young in a Hawks uniform again:

"I hope not. I hope this is the last time we see him in a Hawks uniform. I feel like his talent is being wasted, his prime is being wasted. Get healthy, get 100% correct whether that is in Atlanta or you know, fingers crossed, the San Antonio Spurs"

Nichols and Cousins talked about the idea of Young being traded to the Spurs and pairing up with budding superstar Victor Wembanyama:

"It's a match made in heaven, it just makes sense. This Hawks team is not doing anything for his talent. I take it personal because I was in that situation once and hopefully this offseason, this is the season where he puts his foot down and uses his power and move to a situation that is going to be healthy for him."

Young injured his hand in Friday's loss to the Toronto Raptors and the Hawks announced yesterday he is going to undergo surgery to repair the radial collateral ligament (RCL) and he will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

Here is the official injury update from Atlanta:

"During Friday’s game vs. Toronto, guard Trae Young suffered a left-hand injury. He underwent an MRI yesterday at the Emory Sports Medicine Complex, which revealed a tear of the radial collateral ligament (RCL) in the fifth finger of his left hand. He will undergo surgery to repair the RCL on Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York and will be re-evaluated in four weeks."

There has been speculation from rival executives and people outside of Atlanta, but remember, none of this trade talk is coming from Young or the Hawks.

We'll see what transpires this summer.
